Obuoba J.A. Adofo was born around 1952 in Ghana. He became a highlife icon as the leader of the City Boys Band. Fans named him "The Black Chinese" for his look.

He started his career in the early 1970s. Highlife legend Nana Kwame Ampadu inspired his music. Adofo focused on love songs to stand out from other singers. He went on to release more than 30 albums. His top hits include "Yaa Boatemaa" and "Ankwanobi."

In 2019, he won the VGMA Lifetime Achievement Award. He always pushed for good lyrics on the radio. His music still inspires young artists in Ghana today.
