Gasasira Jean Felix, famously known as Soso Mado, was a legendary Rwandan guitarist and vocalist who served as a cornerstone of the iconic Orchestre Impala. Born in Lubumbashi, DRC, he brought a sophisticated mastery of Congolese Rumba and Soukous back to Kigali, where he helped form the "Original Seven" members of Impala in 1974. As a key architect of the Karahanyuze (Igisope) genre, Mado was celebrated for his clean, melodic guitar work and his distinct vocal contributions to timeless hits like "A Dieu ma jolie prudence" and "Dativa." Though his technical brilliance often draws comparisons to the virtuosos of TPOK Jazz, he remained a dedicated pillar of the Rwandan music scene until his passing in December 1992, leaving behind a legacy that continues to define the golden era of East African music.
