Embaye Habtemichael, known as Embaye Habtu, is revered as the Godfather of Eritrean Musical Awlo. In 1964, he moved to Addis Ababa and co-founded Megaleh Guayla alongside Bereket Mengisteab to bring traditional Eritrean roots music to broader audiences. He is best remembered for elevating Awlo poetry into a structured musical art form. During his time in Addis Ababa, he cut foundational vinyl singles for the Philips label.
