Étienne "Chantal" Kazadi was a defining voice of Congolese Rumba. He performed during the golden age of the 1960s and 70s. Kazadi was a lead singer for African Fiesta Sukisa. This was the iconic band led by Docteur Nico. Kazadi had a smooth, expressive vocal style. He helped shape the classic Kinshasa sound. He is best known for the 1968 hit single "Doris". He both wrote and sang this beloved track. "Doris" perfectly captures the soulful harmonies of the era. It remains a standout piece of African music history.
