Hassani Rehani Bitchuka, affectionately nicknamed "Sauti ya Dhahabu" (The Golden Voice), is a legendary Tanzanian vocalist and composer who remains a cornerstone of the Muziki wa Dansi genre. Hailing from the Kigoma region, Bitchuka rose to prominence through his work with NUTA Jazz and later as a founding pillar of the DDC Mlimani Park Orchestra, where his high-pitched, melodic tenor became the definitive sound of the "Sikinde" style. Throughout a career spanning over four decades, he was most famous for his 30-year creative partnership with Muhidin Maalim Gurumo, the duo known as "Mapacha" (The Twins)and for his didactic, poetic songwriting in hits like "Clara" and "Talaka ya Hasira." Although he retired from active stage performance around 2023, Bitchuka’s influence persists as one of East Africa’s most respected musical icons, celebrated for maintaining the traditional brass-heavy rhumba sound during a time of shifting musical trends.
