Mwalimu Thomas Wasonga is a legendary Kenyan composer, singer, and cultural icon. His stirring patriotic anthems have defined Kenya's civic pride for decades. Born in Nakuru and raised in Siaya, his deep passion for music began in church choirs. His musical journey blossomed during training at Kericho Teachers Training College, earning him the enduring title of Mwalimu or teacher. He captured the national spotlight in 1980 with a landmark performance for the Head of State. Following that success, he composed over eighty iconic patriotic songs, including Tuishangilie Kenya and Heko Jamhuri. He dedicated decades of service to the Permanent Presidential Music Commission.
