Ras Kimono (born Oseloke Augustine Onwubuya; May 9, 1958 – June 10, 2018) was a legendary Nigerian reggae pioneer whose politically charged lyrics and heavy roots rhythm left an indelible mark on West African music. Rising to stardom with his 1988 debut album Under Pressure, he combined a distinct patois delivery with native African elements to champion the rights of the ordinary person while directly confronting state corruption. Backed by his Massive Dread Reggae Band, the multi-award-winning artist spent over three decades touring globally and utilizing hits like "Rum-Bar Stylée" as vehicles for social activism until his passing in Lagos at the age of 60.
