Paulino Vieira is a Cabo Verdean multi-instrumentalist, composer, and producer who modernized traditional morna and coladeira. As a core member of the diaspora band Voz de Cabo Verde and a brilliant studio maestro, he shaped the acoustic backing for the country's most legendary voices. Most notably, Vieira produced and arranged Cesária Évora’s 1992 breakthrough album, Miss Perfumado. Known as a musical purist who plays almost any instrument he touches, he later withdrew from the commercial music industry to protect his creative independence and the cultural roots of his homeland's music.
