Simon Kihara Macharia, popularly known as Musaimo, is a Kenyan benga musician and producer from Kangema, Murang'a County, who helped shape the sound of Kikuyu popular music. He started out in Nairobi as a guitarist in Joseph Kamaru's band before striking out on his own to form the Mbiri Young Stars. Musaimo stood out by mixing fast-paced benga dance rhythms with traditional storytelling and complex guitar parts inspired by Western country music. Over a career lasting several decades, he recorded more than 200 songs that tackled social issues, romance, and daily struggles with sharp wit. This music took him on international tours to the UK, the US, and Australia, and he later set up his own production networks to record and support younger artists coming up behind him. His most famous tracks include "My Dear Kwaheri," "Chai wa 14," "Kanyenya-ini," "Nyakanduma," "Kagoiya," "Combination," "Queen ya Musaimo," "Nyina wa Mundu," "Babie," and "Chugio ni Maisha."
