Formed in the 1960s in the town of Tabora, central Tanzania, the Tabora Jazz Band (later known as Tabora Sound Band) was a cornerstone of the muziki wa dansi scene. Led by the influential guitarist Shem Ibrahim Karenga and notably featuring rhythm guitarist Kassimu Kaluwona, the band achieved massive popularity in the 1970s with hits like "Dada Asha.
