Victor Madoda Ndlazilwana was a famous South African jazz musician who sang, played many instruments, and wrote great music. He grew up in the Eastern Cape and became well-known singing with a group called the Woody Woodpeckers. He also helped create the famous 1959 jazz show 'King Kong' and traveled to London to perform it. In 1970, he became the leader and main songwriter for a band called the Jazz Ministers. In 1976, they made history as the first South African jazz band to play at the famous Newport Jazz Festival. His beautiful music lives on today through classic songs like 'Zandile.' He even wrote a song called 'Nomvula's Dance' for his daughter, Nomvula, who is also a piano player. She later married another great South African jazz musician, Bheki Mseleku, keeping the family's strong musical history alive.
