KASONGO TRENDS

Do you want your son to become a musician? Name him, KASONGO. It is a musician's name.

1. ANTOINE KASONGO is the first generation who recorded at Ngoma in the 50s. His peers were Paul Mwanga, Camile Feruzi, Leon Bukassa, Wendo Nkolosoy, Henri Bowane, my favorite musician Henrique Tinapa, etc. Franco, Grand Kale, Tabuley, Bavon, etc. are second generation, and Lipua Lipua, Bela Bela, Zaiko, Kamale, etc, are third generation.

2. RONDOT KASONGO WA KASONGO, the bald head OKJ sax player. Kasongo, who joined in 1969, replacing Verckys, died of lung cancer in the 90s. He was a consistent figure in OKJ songs, and you'd easily mistake him for part of the band's sound system, which is comprised of powerful UK-made Ranger speakers.

3. BRAZZOS KASONGO MPANGA, Afrisa mi soloist, the man who brought Swahili to Afrisa in the 80s and composed all the Swahili songs in Afrisa, "nadina", "paka wewe", and even translated the song "Nakeyi Nairobi", resulting to the Swahili version. In his days, Dino Vangu played solo, and Dave Makondele played rhythm. 

4. KASONGO SONGOLEY one of the founders of Super Mazembe in whose honor Katele Aley composed the song "kasongo." Kasongo played guitar alongside Rapok Kayembe, Loboko Passie and others as Longwa Didos led the singing team and Dodo Doris drumming.

5. KASONGO WA KANEMA is a deadly vocalist with Baba National and Super Mazembe and a music producer of Nairobi. Kasongo sang the lead vocals of the greatest Christmas song ever, "Viva Christmas," which was said to have been composed by Mangelepa veteran Lutulu Kaniki while with Baba National. He is backed by the high tenor of Mzee Tchoutchou Batenga. 

6. MBOKALIA FASO KASONGO a solo wizard with Wenge Musica BCBG and the composer of "Serge Palmi,". This is the Kasongo representing the fifth generation. His peer guitarists are Allain Makaba, formerly of Wenge, Flam Kapaya of Wenge Maison Mere, etc.
