Bekyibei arap Mosonik, also known as Nyaunya, is celebrated as one of the most significant pioneers in Kalenjin music history, with his earliest compositions dating back to the development of traditional songs in the 1920s. A key figure in the transition of Kalenjin music from folk traditions to recorded art, he is most famous for his association with the iconic song "Chemirocha" (a local adaptation of American country singer Jimmie Rodgers), which he performed and was recorded by ethnomusicologist Hugh Tracey in 1950. His music, often performed with a collaborator and accompanied by the traditional Chepkongo lyre, laid the foundation for the secular Kalenjin music scene, profoundly influencing later legends like his alleged nephew, Kipchamba arap Tapotuk.
