George Zirro Harrison

Full name George Zirro Harrison
Country Kenyan

George Zirro Harrison (died 2015), affectionately known by the stage name "Mr. Extra," was a multi-talented founding member of the iconic Kenyan band Them Mushrooms. As one of the five Harrison brothers, he helped establish the group in 1969 (then called Avenida Success) and was a central figure during their 1972 rebranding and subsequent rise to international fame. Primarily a guitarist and vocalist, Zirro’s melodic contributions were vital to the development of the "Mombasa Sound" and the success of their 1980 platinum hit "Jambo Bwana." In 1992, following the death of his brother and drummer Dennis Kalume, Zirro left the band to pursue a solo career—a move that significantly altered the group's trajectory and nearly led to its dissolution. He remained a respected veteran of the Kenyan music scene until his passing in December 2015, leaving a lasting legacy as a pioneer of coastal rhythms and African fusion music.
