He is a Congolese soukous singer, composer, drummer, songwriter, dancer, and producer. The third son of Vicky Longomba and maternal uncle of French player Claude Makélélé, William is known for his avant-garde "techno-soukous" and performances. M'bilia dropped out of school in 1977, at the age of seventeen, to accept a position in the troupe of singers and dancers that accompanied the grand dame of Congolese music, Abeti.
